The boarding school Louisenlund was founded in 1949 by Friedrich, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein as a non-profit foundation. Ever since, the ducal family along with the board of trustees, the board of directors and the management has been taking care to continue developing and protecting our values:

  • It is our prime concern to educate and build a sense of responsibility towards our near and distant social environment as well as our natural environment; to ask and encourage public spirit and courage, patience, perseverance, heart and willpower.

As a consequence, an educational facility was created in northern Schleswig-Holstein right near the river Schlei to combine group living, learning and achievement. On campus, 330 children and young people grow up with the intention to build a character that is capable of taking on responsibility in many different capacities in our society.

This happens through:

  • small, motivating learning groups that provide many opportunities for (as well as bilingual-oriented) learning and gaining experience
  • a wide range of afternoon educational opportunities – such as “guilds” and “services” – to develop personal strengths, skills and talents
  • a highly qualified and experienced teaching staff
  • a mentor system aligned to care for the needs of the students
  • boarding houses providing a home for young people
  • a scholarship programme for above average, committed students

In response to globalization, students at the only boarding-school in Northern Germany have the opportunity to study for, not only the German “Abitur”, but also the globally accepted International Baccalaureate Diploma.
