The best conditions for a sporty educational biography

The plus sailing support program includes a sports profile in the upper school. This gives pupils the opportunity to combine their passion for sailing with school. Water training is a central component of the curriculum, and the academic subject areas are covered equally. Similar to the plus-MINT talent development program, the school content is carefully coordinated and enables special support in the area of sailing.

With its own sailing harbor, an extensive boat park, the bridge house and direct access to the coveted sailing area on the Große Breite der Schlei, pupils in Louisenlund find the best conditions to successfully shape their sporting path to the Abitur.

"We have short distances between the boarding school, the school and the boat. So you can be on the water at almost any time of day."

Andreas Schweizer, sailing coach

Sailing and education: a perfect combination

With professional coaches, modern equipment and in a strong community, the young sailors receive targeted support. Regatta training, strategic competition preparation and participation in national and international competitions are at the heart of the program. At the same time, the participants learn important values such as teamwork, responsibility and perseverance.

Louisenlund thus offers the perfect balance between sporting and academic excellence, so that the students are prepared for the future in the best possible way.

"Is it possible to sail other boats?"

In addition to the ILCA, Louisenlund also has 29ers, youth sailing cutters and yachts. All boats can be tried out at any time and sailed regularly. Additional training in another boat class is also desirable

"Can I bring my own boat?"

You may bring your own ILCA.

"Who looks after the students at regattas during the school vacations?"

In general, there are very few regional regattas during the school vacations. However, if this should be the case, we have a team of coaches who can split up accordingly. Individual coaching will only take place in exceptional cases.

"What athletic activities can be practiced alongside sailing?"

There is a dedicated gym with WellYou equipment, an adjacent forest for jogging, a sports field with a running track and floodlights, a calisthenics scaffold, two sports halls with all the equipment and SUPs. In addition, there is of course the possibility of practicing other sports as super elementary sports (e.g. tennis, field hockey, soccer).

"Where do the pupils live?"

Like everyone else, the students live in a single or double room in the boarding school. Depending on the year group, the room is located in the courtyard or in the castle area.

"Can I also take part in plus sailing as a day student?"

The talent development of plus sailing takes place in homogeneous special classes (in the upper school in the sports profile) and in a personality-building learning environment in the boarding school community. For pedagogical reasons, boarding school accommodation is essential for holistic support and education in the sense of academic education leading to the Abitur, the comprehensive sports program of competitive sport, character development and the promotion of social skills. School, sports and personal development activities, learning units and coaching sessions are closely coordinated in the daily routine and individual daily planning. The day at Louisenlund comprises activities between 8 am and 9:30 pm. The daily routine consists of group activities, individual activities and also individual phases of relaxation, which alternate several times a day. The further participation of the sailing talents in external training camps or competition regattas requires a weekly and annual plan that is adapted to these participations.

It would be conceivable to take part in plus sailing as a day student if you live in the towns of Güby and Fleckeby. It is unreasonable to expect people to live further away, as there is no suitable public transport service that would enable them to take part in plus sailing and make the necessary several daily changes of location.

"How can I apply for the scholarship?"

You can apply directly to the Louisenlund Foundation. The prerequisites are that you are either in year 10 or E, the submission of your last three school reports, a sports report from your home coach, a sporting CV (including regatta results) and a personal interview with us in Louisenlund.

Further information and registration at or telephone: 04354/999-333

"What is the scholarship amount based on?"

The special sailing scholarships are partial scholarships that can cover up to 50 percent of the contribution. The exact amount depends on the parents' income.

"What services are covered by the parental contribution?"

The agreed parental contribution covers the costs of accommodation in the boarding school, all meals, sailing activities, participation in services and guilds, health care in the event of minor illnesses and the students' insurance against accident, fire and burglary damage. In addition, team clothing, use of rental boats, travel costs to sailing events, costs for training camps and entry fees for regattas that take place as part of the program are also included.

All personal expenses of the students such as: sportswear (including wetsuits and drysuits), regatta sails, pocket money, travel expenses, medical treatment as well as the school's expenses for individual lessons, excursions and leisure sports trips, theater visits and the like are invoiced separately

The school fees include team clothing from Musto (e.g. jacket, Lycra). Also included are entry fees and accommodation costs for regattas or training camps that are part of the program.

Advice and application

The plus sailing support program is aimed at motivated students who will be in year 10 in the 2025/26 school year, who already have sailing experience in Opti or ILCA sailing and have the ambition to develop at a higher level. To apply for the program, in addition to the last school reports, a sports report from the home coach and a sports CV are required.
