Learning. Perform. Living.

To act responsibly, to think creatively, to face challenges with self-confidence, to achieve the greatest possible independence and at the same time to be committed to the community - this is the declared aim of the educational work at Louisenlund.

The Louisenlund Foundation was founded in 1949 as a state-recognized grammar school with a boarding school by Duke Friedrich of Schleswig-Holstein. In response to globalization, Louisenlund is the only boarding school in northern Germany to offer the opportunity to take the globally recognized International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) in addition to the Abitur.

In the north of Schleswig-Holstein, directly on the Schlei, there is an educational institution that directly combines learning, performance and life. Today, around 500 children and young people are growing into personalities on the campus who will be able to take on responsibility in a wide variety of roles in future society.

This happens through

  • small, motivating learning groups with varied and distinctive learning and experience opportunities,
  • a wide range of additional educational opportunities to develop personal strengths and talents,
  • a committed and qualified teaching staff,
  • a mentoring system geared towards the needs of the pupils,
  • career preparation seminars and work placements,
  • a scholarship program for students with above-average commitment and performance.

Learning and taking responsibility is at the heart of Louisenlund's pedagogy. Every pupil has a variety of opportunities to discover their potential, try themselves out and develop performance and commitment within a community.

Louisenlund is a cosmopolitan boarding school, all-day grammar school and IB World School. Pupils from all over the world live and learn here. As a member of the international Round Square Association, Louisenlund promotes the international exchange of students and teachers. The same applies to the intensive contacts with international partner schools and participation in international events and projects.

The profile

For more than 75 years, the Louisenlund Foundation has stood for the harmonious interplay of school and boarding school. Located in a charming rural setting directly on the banks of the Schlei in Schleswig-Holstein, the campus offers the best conditions for students to live and learn. In addition to the state-recognized Abitur, Louisenlund offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB), which prepares students specifically for studying abroad. Growing up in Louisenlund's unique community shapes each individual and provides the ideal space for personal development. The intensive support and the wide range of learning opportunities open up ideal entry opportunities worldwide following the course. The support provided by teachers, mentors and house parents promises to ensure individual attention and a sense of security not only during school hours, but also during leisure time and in the residential community.

The Louisenlund Foundation promises that young people will become independent, motivated and open-minded personalities who are able to take responsibility for themselves and others.

Learning, achieving and living - Louisenlund's special concept is reflected in the school's four guiding principles:

Demanding performance, promoting talent

The focus of education is on developing the personality inherent in young people. The focus is not on "becoming who you are", but on "being who you want to become". This means giving every pupil as many opportunities as possible to discover their own potential and try themselves out.

Thanks to the international orientation and intensive career guidance, pupils at Louisenlund are particularly well prepared for their future careers.

Company internships, job application training and assessment center exercises supplement the lessons; special learning techniques prepare students for their Abitur and later studies. Louisenlund's cosmopolitan orientation and its increasingly pronounced internationalization are reflected not only in the English-language IB, but also in a wide range of contacts abroad.

Through the Round Square association, students have the opportunity to visit partner schools and take part in international aid projects and conferences, thereby gaining unique experiences.

Students actively represent the values they have developed at Louisenlund in student parliaments and school assemblies, as well as in exchanges with other schools and institutions.

Preserving traditions, conveying values

The willingness to take on social responsibility was and still is a premise in the education of all pupils. Louisenlund Boarding School sees itself as an educational institution that supports young people in developing into self-confident and reflective personalities. In order to ensure holistic support and promote a wide range of talents, the academic part at Louisenlund is supplemented by an extensive guild program. Within the guilds, students learn to take responsibility and to perform well. The experience gained strengthens the individual and shapes the unique Louisenlund community spirit.

Living together, taking responsibility

In addition to academic support, the social component is a cornerstone of the holistic pedagogy. Services such as the THW, fire department, first aid and aid projects abroad contribute to the development of a responsible personality. In social services, the Louisenlund guilds cooperate closely with the relevant institutions in the surrounding area. The resulting connection to the school's immediate surroundings also strengthens its external impact within the region.

In addition to social services, the school's founders also had sailing at the heart of the guild concept. In the dinghy and cutter area, the sport functions as a medium for experience-oriented learning opportunities for all grades. All pupils are dependent on each other in communicative and action-oriented interaction in order to achieve goals as a team.

Other challenging activities are grouped around the services and sailing.

Pursuing visions, shaping the future

As much as numerous Louisenlund traditions have stood the test of time, it is important to meet the global challenges of the future. It is therefore essential for us to further expand our internationality.

Today, the focus is also on the conscious use of natural resources and the environment. With a view to the future, the Louisenlund Foundation is working on its ecological profile. Sustainability is not only addressed in lessons and projects, but should also be practiced in everyday life.

At Louisenlund, pupils become reflective personalities. Graduates are able to grasp global interrelationships, creatively combine known solutions and develop new ones. Louisenlund has set itself the goal of always being at the cutting edge, without allowing itself to be seduced by short-lived trends. In this way, students can be given the ideal tools they need in the face of rapid change.

Louisenlund Private School is committed to enabling young people to understand the world of today and to help shape the world of tomorrow with new ideas.
