"It's a great moment when you realize what you're made of.
That set something in motion for me! That's Louisenlund."

Independent learning

In the upper school (years 11-13) at Louisenlunder Gymnasium, the focus is on independent learning and academic work. Pupils play an active role in shaping their educational path and take responsibility for their learning goals.

In addition to subject teaching, there is a strong focus on developing analytical thinking, creativity and teamwork skills. "Learning by doing" characterizes the way of working in seminars, in the Studio Times, in the guilds and in the residential areas of the boarding school. Strengthening the co-construction of knowledge and the students' ability to work in a team is the central aim of our learning opportunities. Cooperative learning takes place in seminars. In the Studio Times in the open learning areas, in the specialist areas and in the guilds, students work on problem-based tasks and joint projects. In the living areas, we develop common foundations for living together. In this way, we make learning visible in all dimensions. Students are accompanied on this individual learning path by mentors, house parents and level leaders.

The profiles of the upper school

Individual learning profiles offer them the opportunity to specialize in different areas such as natural sciences, languages, humanities or sports.

Social science profile

This profile area focuses on the three dimensions of politics, society and economics, which form the core of a future-oriented education. Against the backdrop of new global dynamics, students learn to understand complex political and economic processes. Students evaluate decisions in terms of their social significance and question them ethically. This profile enables students to play an active and participatory role in society as informed citizens.

Aesthetic profile

In this profile area, students can choose between art and music. Both subject areas explore what appeals to our senses, be it through beauty or repulsion, pleasure or displeasure.

Within our art area, the focus is on a wide range of fields such as drawing, graphics, painting, sculpture, performative and media art as well as architecture and design. Here, the reality of life is explored with curiosity and a critical examination of it is sought. Pupils learn to decode and understand images and to express themselves visually. The adept use of visual media is essential in order to find one's way in an increasingly digital world and forms a basis for career orientation. This profile sharpens analytical and networked thinking, promotes creativity and makes a significant contribution to personal development.

The musical understanding of central social issues is deepened at Louisenlund through topic-based work. This includes the interpretation of musical works, reflection on the functional use of music and creative work. This not only emphasizes the connection to related arts, but also supports holistic and interdisciplinary thinking through cross-references to other disciplines.

Natural sciences and technology

At Louisenlund, particularly talented pupils have the opportunity to apply for a place in the plus-MINT talent development program program. This program is aimed at outstanding young researchers in the STEM subjects and accompanies them from the 10th grade until they graduate from high school. The plus-MINT program offers learning experiences that go far beyond regular school lessons, especially in the natural sciences.

Sports profile

From the 2026/27 school year, we will be offering students with sporting ambitions the opportunity to take sport as a profile subject at an advanced level and to combine theory and practice to create the perfect basis for the Abitur. The sports profile at Louisenlund differs fundamentally from conventional sports lessons. It is aimed at young people who want to understand sport not just as a hobby, but as a scientific field. Lessons take place for four hours in the introductory phase (E) and five hours in the qualification phase (Q1 & Q2).

The following sports are compulsory for all profile participants: sailing, tennis, fitness and a ball sports specialization.

The upper secondary school prepares students specifically for the Abitur and enables them to further develop their academic and personal strengths.
