More space to learn with joy - the middle school in Louisenlund

As a logical extension of the Louisenlund educational philosophy, we give students in middle school (grades 8–10) more space to better understand themselves within their own learning process. From now on, students will work with “LundMoodle,” our digital learning platform, where course materials for all subjects are made available. This gives students the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility for their own educational journey.

Introduction to self-management

Close cooperation with personally assigned mentors helps students to recognize their individual needs and strengths and use them to their advantage. Increasing independence within the learning process develops the ability to self-manage. Learning success is perceived and celebrated as a personal achievement.

During study periods, students work through the fundamentals of the current topic in the learning area. Students plan part of their study periods themselves and work independently on the learning materials provided via LundMoodle. The learning content is structured so that students can learn in a way that is as practical as possible while discovering their own learning style. Whether working individually, in cooperative pairs, or in study groups, every child is able to develop according to their strengths and talents and thus work at their own pace. Study periods are supervised by two to three subject teachers from the respective grade levels. In projects and seminars, the content developed by the students is applied in a practical context and explored in greater depth.

Within a specified framework, students are responsible for combining curricular and extracurricular activities. Reflection is a key factor in the success of this largely independent form of learning. With their personal mentor, students learn to plan, review, and, if necessary, critically evaluate their set goals and individual learning paths.

At the beginning of each school week, they discuss the most important learning topics together and review what was accomplished the previous week. This gives students the opportunity to celebrate their successes and also to learn how to cope with failure. Successes, setbacks, and special moments or achievements are recorded in the personal “LundPortfolio,” documenting the entire history of learning and development at Louisenlund. In this way, the middle school optimally prepares students for the challenges of high school.
