More space to learn with joy - the middle school in Louisenlund

As a consistent continuation of the Louisenlund pedagogy, we are giving pupils in the middle school (years 8-10) more space to better understand themselves in their own learning process. From now on, pupils will work with "LundMoodle", our digital learning platform on which the learning content of all subjects is made available. This gives pupils the opportunity to take more and more responsibility for their own educational biography.

Introduction to self-management

Close cooperation with personally assigned mentors helps students to recognize their individual needs and strengths and use them to their advantage. Increasing independence within the learning process develops the ability to self-manage. Learning success is perceived and celebrated as a personal achievement.

The academic part of the school day is divided into two phases - learning times and seminar times.

During learning times, students work on the basics of the current topic in the learning area. The students plan part of their learning times themselves and work independently on the learning material provided via Lundmoodle. The learning content is structured in such a way that students can learn as practically as possible and at the same time discover their own learning style. Whether working individually, in cooperative partner work or in learning groups, each child is allowed to develop their strengths and talents and thus work at their own pace. The learning times are supervised by two to three subject teachers of the year groups. In projects and seminars, the content developed by the pupils is applied and deepened in a practical way.

Within a given framework, the combination of curricular and extracurricular activities is the responsibility of the pupils. Reflection is an important factor in the success of this largely independent form of learning. With their personal mentor, students learn to plan, review and, if necessary, critically question the goals they have set themselves and their individual learning paths.

At the beginning of each school week, they discuss the most important learning sections together and look at what they have achieved in the previous week. This gives pupils the opportunity to celebrate successes and learn how to deal with failure. Successes, failures and special moments or achievements are recorded in the personal "LundPortfolio", thus documenting the entire learning and development history at Louisenlund. In this way, the middle school prepares young people optimally for the challenges of the upper school.
