"We are building the future of agriculture!"

Dr. Peter Rösner, Leiter Stiftung Louisenlund

Louisenlund - Boarding school with agricultural campus

The Louisenlund Foundation is planning a unique agricultural campus in Germany for the 2025/26 school year in close cooperation with the Damp Estate, which is characterized by agriculture, and thus the new vocational high school specializing in agriculture. Together with the estate, we are combining many years of experience and core competencies to combine education and agriculture in a forward-looking way.

The Louisenlund Foundation is both a grammar school and a boarding school. The new, specialized and practice-oriented Abitur enables pupils who are interested in nature and agriculture to deepen these fields of interest even before they begin their studies or vocational training. The partnership with the nearby Damp Estate provides students with excellent practical opportunities. The interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary learning takes place not only in our state-of-the-art classrooms, but also in our laboratories and most importantly: directly in the action of agriculture, on our experimental plots for syntropic agriculture and on the fields of Gut Damp. The program begins in the 2025/26 school year with entry into the upper secondary school (E-year) and leads to the general university entrance qualification - the Abitur - in three years.

Louisenlund is aiming to have this state qualification included in the list of educational institutions of the state of Schleswig-Holstein in order to enable co-financing via student BAföG - subject to the approval of the Ministry of Education.

This is what we offer:

  • Regular practice at Gut Damp, e.g. accompanying the agricultural year, soil analyses, experiments to optimize yields, analysis of the ecosystem, etc.
  • State-of-the-art learning environment with excellently equipped laboratories
  • Great excursions
  • Exciting projects: Hunting license course, cooking course, forestry projects
  • Dialogue with associations and companies, politics, magazines, experts from public relations/social media/influencers
  • Boarding school life with short distances between school, living and practice
  • Life in a strong community with healthy and regional cuisine
  • Small learning groups, excellent academic preparation for A-levels, vocational training and university studies

Answers to the most important questions about the Agrarcampus

"Can you only come to Louisenlund if you have an agricultural background?"

This is not a prerequisite. The agricultural sector is of great importance to our society. It not only ensures a sufficient supply of food, but also has an impact on the environment, progress and the economy. The demand for qualified specialists in this field will therefore increase steadily - and not just for farmers, but in all professions related to sustainability, nature conservation, the environment and research.

"Where do the students at the agricultural campus live?"

Like everyone else in the sixth form, students at the agricultural campus live in a single or double room in the castle area of the boarding school. Some of them are also accommodated at Gut Damp for project work.

"Can I also attend the vocational grammar school for agriculture as a day student?"

The vocational grammar school for agriculture with its special content and academic support is closely linked to the personality-building learning environment in the Louisenlund boarding school community. For pedagogical reasons, boarding school accommodation is essential for holistic support and education in the sense of academic education leading to the Abitur, the comprehensive program in agriculture, character development and the promotion of social skills. School, thematic and personality-building activities, learning units and coaching sessions are closely coordinated in the daily routine and individual daily planning. The day at Louisenlund comprises activities between 8 am and 9:30 pm. The daily routine consists of group activities, individual activities and also individual phases of relaxation, which alternate several times a day. The more extensive program with national and international excursions, internships and services on the farm requires a weekly and annual plan that is adapted to these participations.

It would be conceivable to attend the vocational high school as a day student if you live in the towns of Güby and Fleckeby. Localities further away are not reasonable, as there is no appropriate local public transport service that could make it possible to attend the vocational grammar school with its special pedagogical characteristics in Louisenlund and the several daily changes of location required.

"What does the curriculum look like?"

In addition to exam-relevant subjects such as mathematics, German and English, the focus in this branch is on the following topics:

Agricultural engineering & biology, economics o. social studies, The natural production factors climate and soil as the basis for yield optimization, Economic and ecological yield optimization, Animal nutrition and organic farming as an example of a system with a closed material cycle, Processes in ecosystems and their significance, Genetics as the basis for controlling animal and plant performance, Breeding as the basis for the performance of plants and animals.

In addition to these focal points, projects such as obtaining a hunting license and insights into the marketing of home-made agricultural products, internships with partners and companies, cooking courses/nutritional science and much more are offered.

"How can I apply?"

Pupils can apply directly to the Louisenlund Foundation. The program begins in the 2025/26 school year with the E year. The prerequisite is transfer to the gymnasiale Oberstufe. In order to transfer from a Gemeinschaftsschule/Realschule, an average of at least 3.0 must be achieved in the subjects German, mathematics and the first foreign language. We also require the last three school reports and a personal interview in Louisenlund. Further information and registration at or telephone: 04354 999-333

"Can I apply for student BaFög?

Louisenlund is striving for the inclusion of this state qualification in the list of educational establishments of the state of Schleswig-Holstein in order to enable co-financing via student BAföG.

"What services are covered by the parental contribution?"

The agreed parental contribution covers the costs of accommodation in the boarding school and at Gut Damp, all meals, the project offerings, participation in services and guilds, health care in the event of minor illnesses and the students' insurance against accident, fire and burglary damage. It also includes participation in the hunting license and chainsaw license.

All of the students' personal expenses are invoiced separately, such as Work clothes, pocket money, general travel expenses, medical treatment as well as the school's expenses for individual lessons, for excursions and leisure sports trips, visits to the theater and the like.

Optimal combination of practice and school

In Louisenlund, you can not only live out your passion for nature, agriculture and the environment, but also combine it directly with your school education! Here, learning becomes an experience. Experiencing nature, character development and social responsibility are firmly anchored in the Louisenlund pedagogy. Our learning and research center with its modern laboratories, large learning areas and seminar rooms forms the academic center on campus.

Schleswig-Holstein's state-approved vocational grammar school offers students the opportunity to choose an agricultural profile that perfectly matches their enthusiasm for farming. Louisenlund offers all the prerequisites for choosing agriculture as a practical focus - through intensive practice and projects and the support of an experienced agricultural team, excellent results are achieved both in the field and at school. Pupils have the opportunity to combine practice and school in the best possible way and at the same time work towards the general Abitur. This allows students to concentrate fully on what is important.
