A symbol of community: the ceremonial handover of the Louisenlund school sweaters

Louisenlund - a school that combines tradition and modernity. These values are not only reflected in the educational concept, but also in the symbols that bind the school community together. One of these symbols is the Louisenlund school sweater, or Schupo for short, which was presented to around 100 new pupils in years 5 to 12 at a ceremony. The Schupo award ceremony was accompanied by music from the school orchestra, conducted by Jan Patrick Faatz.

Princess Ingeborg zu Schleswig-Holstein and Foundation Director Dr. Peter Rösner opened the event and emphasized the historical significance and spirit of the sweater. "This sweater is more than just a piece of clothing," he explained. "It is a sign that we stand up for each other as a community - then as now."

The history of the Louisenlund school sweater goes back to the post-war period. Back then, in a time of scarcity and deprivation, the then Duchess of Schleswig-Holstein showed a special act of humanity and care. Using one of her husband's old navy sweaters and a red sock as an improvised collar, she single-handedly made a garment for a child who was freezing. The sweater not only provided cozy warmth, it was also perfect for sailing and was chic enough for special occasions.

This sweater became a symbol of charity, solidarity and the ability to create great things from little. Since then, the sweater has not only evolved in appearance, but also in its meaning for Louisenlund: it stands for the values of the school - cohesion, responsibility and mutual support. "Body and soul should feel safe in the Schupo," said Princess Ingeborg. By wearing the Schupo, everyone shows that they feel part of the Louisenlund community, even after school. It is a symbol of recognition all over the world. Pupil President Luc Zimmermann also appealed to the pupils to wear the Schupo with pride and respect and reminded them: "Monday is Schupo Day!"

The Louisenlund school sweater combines past, present and future. While it refers to its historical roots, it also represents modern pedagogy and the school's aspiration to shape young people into responsible global citizens. The pupils now wear their new sweater with pride - whether in class, at school events or simply in everyday life. It is not only warm and comfortable, but also a constant companion that reminds them of what Louisenlund is all about: a community in which everyone counts.
