In Louisenlund leben und arbeiten rund zwanzig unterschiedliche Nationen auf dem Bildungscampus

The future of all of us can only lie in the hands of open-minded people

Louisenlund lives and teaches in the spirit of international understanding, especially in times of resurgent national consciousness and isolationist policies in many places. The aim of the foundation is to educate Louisenlund girls and boys to become curious, socially committed and open-minded people, to support them in breaking down intercultural barriers and to work towards global coexistence.

A cornerstone of a high level of education is learning foreign languages and taking internationality for granted. One of the four profiles available for the Abitur is the language profile. Teachers from Great Britain, the USA, France, Spain and Chile are available for this. In addition, many students spend time abroad before their university entrance qualification.

"We do everything we can to help children spread their wings and set off on an open-minded path in life."

Catherine Donovan, Round Square Representative | International Affairs | Career Counseling

Round Square - Experience exchange

Since 1978, the Louisenlund Foundation has been a member of the Round Square, a global network of partner schools in which more than 250 renowned boarding schools and schools with a comparable reform pedagogical model have joined forces. Together, they want to stand up for their fellow human beings, master the challenges of our time and raise international awareness. Fifth-graders already take part in the regular regional or worldwide Round Square conferences and visit the respective host school with their teachers.

All Round Square schools have committed themselves to the so-called IDEALS:

I for Internationalism
Dfor Democracy
Efor Environmentalism
A for Adventure
L for Leadership
S for Service

The conferences focus on a future topic that all participants work on, international projects are created and the pupils are given the opportunity to represent their school. Every year, around 30 pupils from Louisenlund take advantage of this multifaceted opportunity for cultural exchange.

International exchange

Thanks to Round Square, Louisenlund students have access to other exciting destinations such as Mexico, Kenya, India and Thailand in addition to the classic destinations such as England, the USA, France and Canada.

Or we can welcome pupils from other Round Square member schools to Louisenlund. As we did last time at the Round Square International Conference 2016:

Development of open-mindedness and context-dependent thinking and learning

With this international focus, we encourage students to consciously discover and understand other cultures. In this way, we promote the development of open-mindedness and sharpen the understanding of context-dependent thinking and learning. This happens not only within Round Square, but also partly through our guilds. For example, our Rwanda Coffee Guild.
